Different Types of Security Video Camera January 9, 2025

Investing in CCTV security cameras is a great way to monitor your home
or office so as to prevent damage and theft. However, choosing what type
of surveillance system to go with can be difficult as there are many
different types of security cameras available. Knowing the commonly used
security cameras will put you in a better position to make an informed
decision.

Wired and Wireless

There are several types of security cameras but they can all be broken
down into two types: wireless and wired. Most security cameras tend to
come in both options. Wired are appropriate for permanent use as they
are hardwired into your home or office by an experienced technician.
They are famously known for producing high picture quality. Wireless on
the other hand are easy to install and can be moved around without much
effort. Wireless can sometimes have their signals interfered with by
other devices that transmit electromagnetic waves.

Dome

Dome CCTV cameras are small cameras that are covered by a plastic dome.
They are mostly placed indoors and are ideal for securing large
businesses and retail stores. These are hard to avoid as the plastic
covering makes it difficult to tell what direction the camera is facing.
Commonly placed on ceilings in clear view, these are also used to scare
off potential criminals.

Bullet

Bullet cameras are
long, thin cameras that can be mounted on the wall as well as the
ceiling. These can be placed outside or indoors whereby the outdoor
types are designed to withstand harsh climatic conditions.

Night And Day

When deciding which security system to use, you should consider the
time that most of the surveillance will be done. If the surveillance
will take place mostly during the day, then a regular daytime camera
would be ideal. However, if surveillance will be mostly done at night or
in a dark area, then the right camera would be one with infrared
technology. Infrared cameras are capable of capturing footage in great
detail in areas where there is barely any light. There is also the
option of getting high-tech cameras, which automatically switch to using
infrared technology when lighting conditions become too dark.

IP/Network

Network or IP cameras transmit images over the internet and often
compress the files so as not to overwhelm the network. These cameras
come in a variety of types and allow you to view your surveillance
footage from your PC or any other device from anywhere around the world.

When buying your security camera system, it is wise to go for
well-known brands. Panasonic has a reputation for providing high quality
CCTV cameras. With Panasonic, you assured of getting high-performance
surveillance cameras that you can use to secure your residential or
business premises.
